Dr. Patil graduated from Vanderbilt University and earned his medical degree at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He completed his general psychiatry residency training at Boston Medical Center/Boston University School of Medicine, where he also completed a fellowship in addiction psychiatry. He worked as the Director of the Division of Addiction Psychiatry at Tufts Medical Center from 2018-2021 and ran the inpatient addiction psychiatry consultation service and saw patients with addiction and pain issues in the outpatient psychiatry and primary care clinics. He was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine and taught a number of courses at the medical school. Dr. Patil is an approved instructor for the PCSS MAT X-waiver training course; he has trained over 100 providers on the use of medications for opioid use disorder (including buprenorphine/Suboxone, methadone, and naltrexone). He has published on topics pertaining to substance use disorder-related stigma, challenges with substance use disorder in the hospital, and addiction training for residents. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Massachusetts Physician Health Services and has experience on workplace issues related to substance use among health care professionals. Dr. Patil recently relocated to North Carolina where he now works as the Medical Director of Addiction Services in the Department of Psychiatry at Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, NC.
