Dr. Edgerton currently serves as an Associate Clinical Professor and the Coordinator of Clinical Education in the graduate athletic training professional program at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. He has held this position since 2011 where he is responsible for all aspects of clinical education including assisting with compliance of current academic accreditation standards. Dr. Edgerton has been a certified athletic trainer for over 26 years and possesses contemporary expertise in the areas of athletic training education, the LGBTQ+ community in healthcare, concussion evaluation and management/rehabilitation, and injury evaluation and rehabilitation. Dr. Edgerton has been a certified athletic trainer since October 1994. He is a licensed athletic trainer in Arizona. Since 2019, Dr. Edgerton has been, and continues to be, a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor for the National Council for Behavioral Health. Dr. Edgerton has given many professional presentations at the state, district, and national level. His topics have included injury rehabilitation and return to play, using technology in the classroom, burnout in athletic training, injury evaluation and the use of special tests, psychosocial aspects of the injured athlete, concussion evaluation and management, athletic taping procedures, and LGBTQ issues in healthcare. Dr. Edgerton has served in several national leadership positions with organizations including the Arizona Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Michigan Athletic Trainer’s Society the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers’ Society, and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education, where he has served as a peer review reader and member for several comprehensive program reviews. He is also a member of the NATA LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee, since 2018. Dr. Edgerton was recognized as the NAU Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training Teacher of the Year.
