In October of 2011 Mike Senneff retired from John Deere after completing 35 ½ years of service. Since 1993 Mike served John Deere in the Product Safety and Compliance area of product design for agricultural machinery involving harvesting and seeding equipment. For many years Mike has been involved in the development of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and ISO safety standards for agricultural machinery. For 12 years he served as the Chairman of the ISO TC23/Sub-Committee 3 – ‘Operator Comfort and Safety’ for machinery and was directly involved in the development of most of the agricultural machinery international safety standards that are in use today. He is a lifetime member of ASABE and has served either as the chair, working group leader or working group member on many different ASABE standards committees. He is currently serving as a member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO TC 199 – ‘Safety of Machinery’ and is a certified Fire and Explosion Investigator. Since retiring from John Deere Mike continues to serve the product safety and compliance community through his consulting firm, Product Safety Help LLC. In this role he offers a variety of services to off-road equipment manufacturers including such things as product safety and compliance training to company staff; training on understanding and practical application of the European Union’s Machinery Directive; audits of machinery for compliance with relevant standards and regulations; development of the Machinery Directive Technical Construction for a manufacturer’s product; accident and fire investigations, and technical support as an expert witness in matters involving product litigation.
