John Cane's areas of expertise are in aircraft piloting and human factors in fixed-wing single engine & multi-engine piston and turbine aircraft operated under Part 91 & 135, as well as the analysis of Part 91 & 135 organizational risk management decision-making related to flight operations, safety and pilot training. Having served as a consulting expert in over 30 aviation litigation cases since 2012, Mr. Cane is particularly skilled in the analysis of opposing expert reports and the development of opposing expert deposition strategies. Mr. Cane has nearly 30 years of aviation experience, having served in 10 different operational and training aviation organizations during his career as an AV-8B Harrier pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps. While in these aviation organizations, Mr. Cane served in the key aviation leadership roles of Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, Director of Safety, Director of Operations, Director of Maintenance, Quality Assurance Officer, Pilot Training Officer, and Instrument Check Pilot, as well as others. While in these leadership roles, Mr. Cane was responsible for all aspects of flight planning & operations, aviation & ground safety, hazard identification & risk management, pilot training, standardization, aircraft maintenance, personnel assignments and disciplinary actions. Mr. Cane holds both an Airline Transport Pilot (Airplane Multiengine Land) and a Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (Powered-Lift) certificate. He is an active pilot with nearly 3000 flight hours in numerous fixed-wing turbine and piston powered aircraft, and he currently serves as a F-35B Lightning simulator instructor at MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina.
