Dr. Carter has more than 25 years of in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene with extensive experience in the petrochemical and aluminum smelting industries, and as a college professor. She has expertise providing litigation support and testimony in cases involving asbestos and chemical exposures. She has been a certified in industrial hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (AIHA) since 1994. Dr. Carter has expertise in chemical exposure assessment, confined space ventilation, welding health and safety, aluminum smelters, petroleum refineries, direct-reading instrumentation, employee training, risk assessment, and process safety management. She has presented at professional conferences and symposia with particular emphasis on the industrial hygiene assessment of large-scale maintenance and construction projects, welding health and safety, silica, and ventilation of confined spaces. She has provided consulting services investigating respiratory irritants or allergen exposures in aluminum smelters, the pharmaceutical industry, food processing, and in the fish processing industry. She is an active member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), and the Pacific Northwest-AIHA (PNS-AIHA) local section. She was elected to and served on the Board of Directors of the ACGIH from 2010 to 2012. She served as the PNS-AIHA representative to the Washington State Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board from 2005 to 2010. She is an active member of the PNS-AIHA local section and served as President in 2011.
