Dr. Ron Knipling has more than 40 years’ experience in traffic safety with emphasis on crash causation, driver alertness and performance, and fleet safety. He is the author of the only comprehensive textbook on large truck safety, Safety for the Long Haul; Large Truck Crash Risk, Causation, & Prevention. This 13-chapter book addresses the truck crash characteristics, risk, causation, driver fatigue, car-truck interaction, vehicle technology, roadway factors, carrier management, and enforcement. It is published by the American Trucking Associations (ATA). In recognition of the book, he received the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Order of Merit award, the first given to an American scientist.
