Manuel J. Chaknis, M.D., M.S. is an Honors graduate of the University of Chicago, majoring in Biological Sciences. He completed laboratory research in cornea and glaucoma and received research awards and funding for his work at the University’s Eye Research Lab. Dr. Chaknis’ graduate degree is in Microbiology, with his laboratory research and thesis concentrating on bacterial and fungal ocular infections in contact lens wearers. While a medical student at the Medical College of Georgia, he did further funded research in retinal physiology, followed by clinical research projects as a resident physician there in Ophthalmology on corneal delivery of topical antibiotics and laser treatments for glaucoma. Dr. Chaknis completed his clinical training at Corneal Consultants of Indiana, under the mentorship of Dr. Francis Price, Jr., an internationally-recognized expert in corneal diseases and surgery.
