I am an academic emergency physician in Florida with a focus in pre-hospital medicine. My primary areas of research and teaching are drowning resuscitation, drowning physiology, and water safety. I have an extensive background in open water lifesaving and teach nationally and internationally on drowning prevention, drowning resuscitation, and lifeguarding; additionally I have been involved in numerous national and international guideline publications. I have published numerous papers and book chapters on these topics and collaborate with an international network of drowning researchers. Within the hospital, my interests are critical care and trauma. I have been providing expert witness services specific to drowning physiology, resuscitation, and water safety since 2018.

Dr. Phillips is an Clinical Associate Professor of emergency medicine practicing in Philadelphia, PA. She achieved her B.S. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and completed her medical school and Emergency Medicine Residency training at Vanderbilt University. She then went on to complete a fellowship in Wilderness Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) where she spent several months rotating at a high altitude clinic in Nepal and providing disaster relief during the 2015 Nepal earthquake. Since then, she has been practicing full time in a busy Level 1 Trauma center in Center City, Philadelphia. I am a Board Certified in Emergency Medicine since 1994. I am a Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine, working full-time clinically at 2 at hospitals for the last 28 years. One, a busy urban academic trauma center, the other a community hospital. I attended Ivy league College and am professor at an Ivy league medical school. Over my career I have been: Director of Quality Assurance, Chair of Morbidity and Mortality conference, served on the BOD, led a Medical School course, served on Peer-Review committees for insurance companies, taught hundreds of Emergency Medicine Residents, and been recipient of numerous teaching and research awards.
