Engaged in the property management industry for over 42 years. Independent consultant serving owners and managers of real estate of various types (commercial and residential) and providing services as an expert witness in related matters. Current (2017 to present) engagement includes working with a management firm with accountability for training its property managers in industry standards and best practices, overseeing the firm’s program to ensure that all managers are certified with industry credentials, and assisting managers in managing risk at client properties. A Certified Property Manager (CPM®) as awarded by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) since 1987 (Key number 11420) and past (1998) President of the New Jersey Chapter (No. 1) of IREM. Certified in 1990 as a Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) by the Community Associations Institute (Pin Number 186) and has been (previously) certified as a Certified Manager of Community Associations by the National Board of Certification- Community Association Management in 1998. Since 2008, an OSHA Outreach instructor. Conducted training programs in OSHA Standards and issued completion cards for the OHSA 10-hour and 30-hour prescribed courses. Previously, owner of a real estate management company for 15 years which was certified by both the Institute of Real Estate Management (AMO®) and the Community Associations’ Institute (AAMC®). Served as Director of Corporate Safety Training and Director of Community Associations for a large east coast real estate developer. In this capacity responsible for setting the standards required of companies that were hired to manage residential properties under development, and for monitoring their performance. As Director of Corporate Safety, responsible for executing a comprehensive safety program throughout the area where the company was engaged in construction (NY, NJ, CT, PA, and NC). Responsible for conducting routine safety inspections of worksites together with his regional safety directors and providing training programs for all construction site personnel. Earlier, was Community Manager of a large-scale homeowner association in Northeast Pennsylvania followed by serving as Director of Property Management and Commercial Operations for a New Jersey Real Estate Developer responsible for directing the management of the company’s residential and commercial real estate, consisting of homeowner associations, apartments, shopping centers, industrial space, and professional office space. In this position, had direct responsibility for maintenance operations for over 8,000 residential units and six (6) shopping centers through the use of in-house and contracted labor. Educated at Fordham University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Attended graduate school at New York University and received a master’s degree in public administration. Worked for six years in municipal government, serving in capacities corresponding to assistant city manager in three New York metropolitan area municipalities. Served as Chapter President of the New Jersey Chapter (No. 1) of IREM and served on its Executive Committee between 1994 and 2000 and again from 2004 to 2006 and 2013 to 2020. Has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Community Associations Institute (Pocono Mountains Chapter) and served on the Education Committee of the Community Associations Institute (CAI), New Jersey Chapter as well as its Managers’ Committee. On a national level, served on the national CAI Professional Community Association Manager Committee and CEO of Management Companies Committees. Served on the AMO file review committee of IREM (the committee that reviews and approves management firms for certification) and is co-author of an advanced level CAI training course for property managers.
