Gail has over 40 years experience in nursing, with the main focus in perioperative services. Majority of roles include scrub, circulating nurse, charge nurse, coordinator, and also as an informaticist. Strong surgical expertise spans Cardiac Surgery, Orthopedics, Plastic, and Trauma procedures. Over the last ten years, she has passionately delivered hands-on training and evidence-based perioperative instruction using the AORN Periop 101 Program to new graduate nurses, experienced nurses and surgical technicians. Guiding individuals in acquiring new skills and empowering them to perform confidently brings her great satisfaction. Her commitment to education has equipped numerous nursing professionals with essential knowledge and skills to transition into this area and provide safe patient care. As a Quality Improvement Coordinator, she conducted retrospective reviews of inpatient medical records, resolving documentation discrepancies for the cardiovascular lab. This work honed her skill in identifying errors, enhancing patient safety and healthcare documentation accuracy. Furthermore, she contributed to major healthcare facility expansions by facilitating dress rehearsals for new procedural areas. This involves identifying workflow gaps, enhancing staff comfort in the new environment, and ensuring adherence to Joint Commission and CMS requirements.
