I have been an expert witness over the past 21 years. The issues have included, but were not limited to, sexual harassment, harassment in violation of Title VII, the Fair Employment & Housing Act, and sexual orientation, negligence, negligent hiring, negligent retention, background investigations & verification of employment, workplace investigations, human resources responsibilities, and documentation and the working environment of automobile dealers, Representation before the: California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board The Department of Labor Standards Enforcement The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission The California Civil Rights Department Jim holds 2 degrees, a B.A. and a J.D. Jim was a Master Teacher at the University of Phoenix for 13 years. He taught several subjects on the graduate and undergraduate levels, including Employment Law, Legal Aspects of Supervision, Ethics, Business Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure. Jim is also a Certified Mediator through the Los Angeles County Bar Association and was formerly a certified Terrorist Investigator with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Jim retired as a Captain. Jim has also written a blog for employers every Monday for the last 13 years called "Listen Up" (www.pottsandassociates.com). Jim is also a published author of 4 books. Jim published his first book In July 2008 (Right to Counsel) and a second one in November 2013 entitled “Walking on Eggshells, Managing Minorities in the Workplace.” Jim has a third book, "Domestic Terrorism Safety Tips," and, most recently, on July 20, 2021, Jim released his latest book, “Defending a Serial Killer,” based upon a true story when Jim, as a law student, defended a serial killer on death row.
